The retail Satan does and it is one fucked up mess…

I imagine most of the large retail stores all have some sort of automated staffing software designed for their business model.

Which is fine in a lot of areas, but in other ways, it’s a mess. On one end, you have the software spitting out needed hours, to be filled by employees. On the other hand, you have a corporate model that says “cut down on costs” so you have a lot of part timers and other ranks of employees who are just on the edge of some classification or another, none of these “fancy” classifications is near “full time.” And on the third hand, you have the union (in many stores) who are trying to squirrel the best they can get for their union members…

It’s a sick trinity of forces that are working against each other, and against old fashion solid business models. And, I’ve been keeping up with some of the trade pages on the internet, it’s not really working. Oh, it’s keeping the doors open, barely. Oh, it’s serving the customers, barely… and yes, the employees have jobs, and many are happy with them… but barely… and it doesn’t take much of anything to upset this apple cart.

Not my idea of how to run a business.
