re: #87 goddamnedfrank

Both rightist traditions have become schizophrenic, they want the money and influence of wealth and power combined with the veneer of legitimacy afforded by populist angst. They’re protean shapeshifters.

This week I’ve seen this argument run a dozen times:

Insane Person: The House sets the budget and the people popularly elected the House.

Sane Person: The Senate has to approve the budget and more people voted for House Democrats in the last election than House Republican. Republicans only control the House via gerrymandering. Lastly, Boehner is refusing to even allow a House vote on the clean CR, which contains their own budget numbers and is only missing the extortion clause.

IP: This is a republic not a democracy. DERP.

SP: I should explain to you how a republic works, okay (explains how republic works.)

IP: Why does Obama hate America?

And on and on and on. “Obamacare is unpopular.” “Obamacare is a word, the provisions all but one provision of the ACA is very popular.” Wash rinse repeat.

Yep, dealing with lunatics and you pretty much outline what we have to deal with. To me, it’s beyond insanity to expect President Obama to sign a repeal on a bill that he spent loads of political capital on but also has indicated he won’t sign and what’s more that has never passed the Senate in the 43 times it has passed teh House. Today’s right seems to value only one thing in their candidates and that’s the extent that they hate Obama and the Democrats.
