Assimilation is a fucking bullshit concept. A deliberately moving goalpost the “other” has to touch…and then re-touch over and over.

Always, always, it involves shifting “failure” conditions such that the assimilating aren’t allow to complain, or call for redress of wrongs, or demand equal rights.
