Winning at Gettysburg would’ve been bad for the Union, but not fatal. Vicksburg cut them off from the Great River, and put the final nail in the coffin of the blockade that was strangling the Confederacy. Army prowess means nothing if the Union Navy controls the ports, and blockade runners can’t ship enough supplies to sustain a war long-term. Ask the Japanese about that.
