So California looks to be running a historic budget surplus.
Good news, right?
Well, not when you have to sell papers. The LA Times both-sides-ing the story:

And of course the big issue for the LA Times is… inflation:
It’s a story that is not a story. Budget calculations always have to include inflation.
And note how the writer has to admit that Newsom & Co. are going to raise spending on some important issues, but the writer has to couch it as not being as much as some might expect.
This is a good problem to have, when the party is not arguing over whether to raise spending but rather on how much and where it should go.
