The reality that they are trying to deny is that their social-political views are indeed the outcast among the general American populace.
“Populism” is a strange term, for it seems to imply some sort of official majority, when in the case of people like Glenn Beck all it means is “mob-ism.”
I suspect it is the same with RSM and all of his supporters on what we label as the far-right. There is a substantial, but not majority, number of Americans who will agree with them on a subset of their beliefs. Yet when it comes to supporting the principles of the Confederacy and the like I think that RSM, HA, MM, and the like would find a great number of Americans will shun them.
This they know, I suspect.
