Not only is it not unprecedented, it’s quite familiar.

The Birchers used to be shunned in the GOP. Now they’re back inside. Sure, when they were shunned, there were still shitloads of racists in the GOP, but I do feel that there’s a difference in openly rubbing shoulders with the people who claim all blacks are communist tools and their political power must be broken, and people who make snide statements about welfare queens. The latter are terrible shitheads who impede progress, but the former can lead to much, much darker crap if their shit really takes hold in public discourse.

I’m not even talking about the GOP or Birchers.

BTW, there isn’t much difference between the people you mention, any more than the diff between the person counting Jewish names on Wall Street and the crank parroting Protocols bullshit about stringpullers.
