One of the things that most deeply disturbs me about Trump is his unwillingness/inability to do the simplest things that require some humility and grace. Whether it’s self-deprecating humor, admitting mistakes, apologizing, or taking responsibility, these simple things are beyond him. This is what’s both funny and terribly sad about the ‘Presidential Trump’ Twitter account - these things are not hard, but for him, they’re impossible.

The Presidential thing to do after the Yemen raid would have been for Trump to come out and say, “I made the decision to go. We worked on this with the best intel we had, and that turned out to have been insufficient. Military action always carries risks, but we work to reduce those risks as much as we can. But no matter how hard we try to do that, we can’t eliminate the risk CPO Owens gave his life in this operation. We will honor that sacrifice by doubling our efforts to minimize those risks, but ultimately, I made the decision to mount this operation, and bear the responsibility.”

Something like that. Something that simple, even I can dash it off in a few minutes. Totally beyond him.
