Mid-mountain is treeline, plenty of trees on the lower part. And yeah, there’s a lot of places where non-expert skiers can get in over their heads. And now there’s more places where that can happen. Steep Gullies is no joke.

Granted, the new chairlift also acts as an egress for the more lower angle terrain to the right in the picture, in fact Arapahoe Basin cut a few new runs in that area, which was mostly beetle killed evergreens, and all those runs are intermediate trails (blue square). But now it’s super easy to get to some dangerous terrain. I hope ski patrol brushes up on their rope rescue skills.

Wait, is this new lift over in the west side of the Basin, above the North Fork of the Snake, ending around the Cornice? That drop is brutal.
