Unlike COVID-19, untreated HIV is 100% lethal, except for the few who are genetically immune. For years, it was a literal death sentence. HIV does take longer to kill its victims and it is not airborne but it is still it is an extremely deadly retrovirus. Ultimately it is likely that HIV will have killed more people worldwide than COVID-19, but we will have to wait and see.
