I experienced the big Veterans’ Day snow storm in the DC area in 1987 (11.5”) first hand. Including getting stuck on I-95 for about seven hours.

Sorry to hear about you getting stuck on I-95. As you saw, it is still happening.

I remember the 1987 snow too.

I was working in Columbia, Maryland at the time. Everybody else in the office fled at the first snowflake. I waited for a couple of hours and then drove home. Past abandoned cars on deserted roads. It was quite surreal.

A couple of days later I was down in DC. Many of the streets there had not been cleared. Connecticut Ave in the Dupont Circle area had huge swaths of 6” deep ice.
