The Bible is, in general, not a scientific textbook. Aside from the creation narrative and the Great Flood, which are pretty open to interpretation, most of it sticks to historical narratives and religious teachings. These people take “This is the Word of God and should be an authoritative influence in your life” to its logical extreme, that is to say, “This is the Word of God, and anything that isn’t in here is bunk.”
