I heard similar conspiracy tales when I lived in Israel 40 years ago—about the Yemenites.

I may personally have a huge problem with Buck, but he does have a grain of salt in that this story has turned into a far more sinister story. It’s what I call the Holocaust Paradox. The Holocaust Paradox is that even though Jews were one of the chief victims of the Holocaust, nowadays if Jews do anything even slightly reminiscent of the Holocaust in any way (which is a very broad category— the Nazis were excessive, not that inventive) it’s judged far more harshly than if other countries do it. In other words, that being the victims of the Holocaust placed a moral obligation on Jews to be better than other people.

So because this story has a vague overtone of eugenics, it reminds people of the Holocaust, and so it makes people go “Jews acting like Nazis!” It’s a cliche, it’s Manichean, I don’t know what it is, but it blows.
