Basically, it started with a bunch of dudebros accusing female game developers of sleeping with men or entering into relationships with them to get positive press coverage for their games. It started with the bitter ex-boyfriend of one of the female devs accusing her of all these things and escalated from there. That’s where the whole “ethics in game journalism” garbage came from.

Since then, the GamerGate idiots have doxxed, harassed and threatened various women in gaming, including a friend of mine, for any perceived sin that upsets them.
