There were plenty of people who hated Obama, and now plenty of people who hate Trump. It does seem the office is more destined to division rather than unity.

My mother has always been a sort of monarchist (she is basically of the same position of the divisive nature of the Presidency and the idea the President spends a great deal of time on party politics). She is of the opinion that we should either join the Commonwealth or train up our own monarchs.

The problem with that though to me seems to a) condemn a family to a life they might not want (constantly in the news, little privacy, when a prince or princess rebels against that model and simply wants to be a person they get pilloried in the press), and b) who the heck would we pick? If we’re picking our own, the bloodbath over that might be a real bloodbath. (King David Koch? King Peter Thiel?)

Someone apolitical, beloved due to excellence in their profession, for a limited term. What about King James, or Queen Latifah (they both already have the titles!).
