The biggest problem with this show is that it’s trying too hard. It’s trying to dive into a premise they think is clever and different but it just ends up hitting every stereotype on the way down.

It would have made much more sense to take something like the Disney show Jessie, which has the plucky teenage girl rebelling against her strict family and moving to the big city, and making her a Muslim. Simple is always better.

Maybe they think the swipe at Saudi Arabia will make it more popular. Or perhaps they thought without that added angle most viewer wouldn’t connect with it.
