re: #87 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

I am not for banning public funding (even indirectly through scholarships or vouchers) for for-profit schools, but they need to be subjected to much higher levels of scrutiny and transparency.

Every dollar that goes into not education (profit and dividends) is a dollar not spent on the requirements of education (students and teacher).

One of the arguments of Libertarians is that business can do things more efficiently than government. (They then hold out their hands for government money.) The same argument could be reversed (subject government schooling to greater oversight.)

Education benefits the whole society, therefore the whole society should pay for it. Most of the history of private schooling in the USA has been to segregate groups of people (β€œus” from β€œthem”). I see no reason why society should help groups of religious people, rich people, bigots, or any other group pay for their self-enforced segregation (particularly if a capitalist or religious model of education is supposedly so good.)
