Sorry AM but there are a lot of really ignorant people out there and it’s not the Democratic Party’s fault that these people would probably literally vote for a piece of a shit if it had a R next to its name. Your district probably gone Democratic maybe twice in its history. It’s a bright red Republican area. And guess what? Until 2008, my state had only gone Democratic once in my parents life and we had a senator who called an Indian-American kid a macaca. Virginia became a purple blue state by people working their asses from within to change it and by being a more inclusive place for people of all cultural backgrounds. We didn’t regress. Nope, we embraced those who were different than us. My brother’s wife is a Peruvian immigrant. My boss is from Iran. That’s America. The so called heartland wants to consider themselves “real America” but the fact of the matter is the closest thing to real America is in those blue areas. Areas that resemble what our country has become.

Interestingly, we had a Democratic rep in NE2. He was defeated in 2014 because the Democratic Party didn’t bother to support his campaign. NE2 now has a wingnut.

NE2’s electoral vote went to Obama in 2008.

Campaigning matters. The majority of the voters do not have cable service in this state.
