You always have to explain a joke to someone.

It never ceases to amaze me how shows like Two Broke Girls or The Big Bang Theory are so popular in China. I’m not sure Chinese viewers would get half the jokes, even with subtitles. Many jokes are culture-specific, time-specific and language-specific. I’m pretty sure a Brit would get more of Monty Python’s quips than a Yank would, for example.
