1. What is happening with the child separation/Red Hen matter is: They did X so we complain about X.

There is a difference between the ends you are trying to accomplish and the means by which it is accomplished. The tut-tutters are complaining about means, not ends.

If Cracker Barrel was refusing service to Richard Cordray because they didn’t like his stance on consumer protection, a) we’d think it was pretty stupid on a policy level, and b) we would also think there was something outrageous about refusing him a meal because they didn’t like his policies.

I’m just saying we shouldn’t confuse (a) for (b), or vice-versa.
