Why do people still do this?

This one is tough. I mean, I get that it was an Arabian themed costume. In the photo, it looks like he might be portraying a genie, but I don’t see why he couldn’t have pulled that off without the dark makeup. At the same time, this wasn’t a swipe at black people or some kind of minstrel show.

Also this did happen way back in 2001. I did some stupid shit in my 20s for sure. Not blackface or anything, but still.
