The question is why discontinue the book and not just update the artwork in the couple of pages where it is an issue? Personally I think the whole thing was to generate controversy and goose sales, which are apparently way up. Something like 5 of the top 6 books on amazon yesterday were Dr. Seuss books.

Maybe they wanted to deplete the current stocks of the six books, which may not be selling well, prior to taking the books out of print. :)
