re: #12 A Mom Anon

I’m confused. I thought roe v. wade was an actual law that made abortion legal. Today I find out it isn’t really a law because it hasn’t gone through another step? It’s not codified? Which means it wasn’t actually written out as to how it would be enforced, what health standards have to be met, etc, is that right? So it was left to the states then, which creates chaos and problems where none should exist.

I don’t consider myself a complete idiot, but what the hell? So this is also why things that should not be up for debate, like voting rights, basic civil rights, need to be made into actual laws, not this half ass bullshit that a bunch of state level spiteful assholes can override like it’s nothing. This is just an insane way to make laws. I’m just pissed off this ONE medical procedure is such a big fucking deal, and has to be fought over and even get killed over, while there’s basically no affordable health care for all of us and we actually fight over it.

All of this country’s weaknesses have been exposed. World wide for all to see openly. We are not currently a strong and united country, and I am not sure how it gets fixed when one group is determined that even killing the rest of us is just fine in service to their version of hell.

roe v. wade is not law. it’s a court decision. it sets precedent for the court on an issue, but the court can just as easily reverse it and say they fucked up the first time. In some ways, as terrible as this will be for women, having the court burn down roe v. wade might ultimately be a positive, in that the next time democrats actually manage to come up with a working majority in the house and senate, they’ll codify black letter law on abortion, and they’ll tell the court to go pound sand. There are ways to do that, though not a lawyer so can’t remember the niceties.
