I was just thinking about how power was controlled in Pittsburgh in the 1960’s when I was growing up. The main families came from the post-Civil War industrial families. Plus some of the newer Fortune 500 firms headquartered there.

Kind of interesting that the same families were able to maintain power in your county through all the changes of the past 2 centuries.

My farm has been in the same family (until I bought it 27 years ago) since the original land grant in the 1700s. The farm itself is significantly smaller now at 200 acres, but the ramshackle house we currently occupy has been here since before the Civil War (the original part of the house is a 2-story notch and peg log structure. My barn is also a timberframe more than 100 years old.
