This will be my first Christmas away from Lubbock in quite a few years. I don’t miss it at all. Every day I am away I become more and more aware of what a hellhole it really is. My current digs, in the wilderness west of Fort Worth, are a virtual paradise of social and cultural progress by comparison. Yes, it is that bad.
It occurred to me that with a population that is 37% Hispanic and 9% black, Lubbock should already have reached the “demographic tipping point” so dreaded by the Tea Party. It clearly has not though, and I am not sure why it hasn’t.
I can speculate though. Religion is very powerful in Lubbock. Along with alcohol abuse and methamphetamine it is the primary driver of social action there. It may be that the minority religious communities can pump out enough anti-gay and anti-abortion propaganda to keep enough minorities from voting their own interest and tipping the balance for good. This could well change with Pope Francis laying down the law to haters in the RC Church, but it may take a while.
It doesn’t help that the local Democratic party is controlled by clueless 60s throwback moonbats and other white elitists. These loons, for instance, attended a rabidly anti-Obama “stop the drones” rally just two weeks before the presidential election last year. They will start a sermon against Ronald Reagan at the drop of a buzzword and they are one of the strongest bastions of liberal/left conspiracy-think left anywhere. The solution is for minorities, union members, and the few feminists and other liberal whites to combine forces, throw the trustafarian navel gazers out of the Dem leadership, get rid of the Vietcong flags and Kumbaya karaoke, and join Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in the 21st century.
