With regard to punishing Russia for the hacking, I can certainly understand the reticence; I mean, what the hell do you do if you’re the POTUS? Call Pooty-Poot on the hotline? Is there any way to make the sanctions even tougher than they already are? And that’s unlikely to affect Putin or his inner circle, quite frankly. Military action? That would be all but suicidal as Russia would retaliate in a nuclear fashion - nukes are the only ace in the hole they’ve got.

What do you do? This is why I wouldn’t want to be POTUS for all the whisky in Ireland.
