I don’t think we qualify as a sanctuary city (hardly qualify as a ‘city’) but the city council did vote to keep the cops off of federal duties. By some standards, that’s all we need to be a ‘sanctuary’.

This is the first place I’ve lived in which the population has declined during my residence. Central Americans would be sooo welcome. Instantly assimilated. It’s the assimilation that Miller, Trump, the RNC and Bannon hate.

When I put forth the bill on my village board to resurrect the office of marshal, it specifically limited the marshal’s duties to enforcing village ordinances.

When the “sanctuary city” issue was fabricated by FOX and conservatives, I considered a proclamation declaring the village a sanctuary city. As the board was majority Republican, I went instead with the ordinance to resurrect the marshal’s office - partly because we needed an enforcement officer for village ordinances, and by recreating that office the bill could limit that office’s duties. That had the same effect as creating a so-called sanctuary city, because now the county sheriff’s duties has been curtailed to enforcing county and state law.
