For the sake of America’s future, it is absolutely necessary that the GOP be reduced to a toothless opposition party.
I think between 30 to 50 years of progressive legislation - as well as the accompanying cultural changes - should be sufficient to break the back of movement conservatism once and for all.
As I recall, prior to the “moral majority” forming up in the 1970s, fundie Christians really weren’t considered a major voting bloc - indeed, many of them actively spurned politics.
We need to get back to that - ideally, we need to so demoralize and discourage social conservatives that they retire from participating in the nation’s political life. Once that’s done - and I do believe it can be done - than America can move forward……and we’ll be better off without them.
I wish I knew the magic trick to do that. There is a massive rightwing edifice, including their churches, dedicated to keeping them angry and afraid so they’ll turn out and vote GOP.
