coming from the POV of being introduced to Python as a budding rebellious teen, it was awesome in multiple ways… it was sophomoric humor for smart people. As such, it caused me to get better acquainted with world events in order to “get” the joke. Their prevalent theme of tweaking authority and being subversive had enormous appeal and the breakneck pace of switching gears in the middle of sketches and defying conventions contributed to that. It was in short, somewhat revolutionary in that it was built from the roots of The Goon Show and The Frost Report and with the advent of Gilliam’s linking illustrations, was unlike anything else.

Plus it was 50 years ago, times change, I am no longer the impressionable teenager I was then when I discovered them and if you examine them thru the lens of today, it doesn’t look the same, but in all honesty, what does?
