The Scottish government has reported six cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been detected here. There doesn’t seem to be any connection between the people infected and the states in southern Africa where the variant seems to have developed and spread initially, no history of travel in that area or familial or social links.

We did have a well-attended rugby international between Scotland and South Africa a few weeks ago and there were some travelling supporters from Serf Efrica but the government has ruled out the match as a source from the Omicron cases they have detected overnight.

The six individuals are self-isolating at home and don’t require hospitalisation, at least at the moment. No news on how many of them are vaccinated.

Whomever it started with, they had to go through London’s Heathrow Airport to get there…
