re: #86 palomino

I’m sure I missed something, but his posts seem well reasoned and in the case of right wing Christians, he’s certainly got a point regarding the conservative mindset.

You haven’t seen his Pages. Here’s one of his ‘gems’ from a little less than two weeks ago. The post from wlewisiii is in italics, Destro’s reply is in plain text:

re: #9 William Barnett-Lewis

The driving force behind the legislation was a series of lawsuits brought by large city governments against the manufacturers saying, in essence, what you said above - we can’t legislate you out of existence because we can’t get the votes so we’re going to sue you out of existence. I don’t normally think that legislative interference in such matters is needed since the courts can sort legitimate claims on their own. However, in this case, several mayors (New York & Chicago especially) had made it clear that they would keep filing essentially nonsense suits to try any bankrupt the makers because they had failed to make a sufficient case for their policies to the country as a whole.

That is not how our system runs. Right now - for good or bad as you may think - there is a legal understanding that possession of a gun is a right that has a higher priority than certain ideas of safety in an urban environment. Given our history and mythologies as a nation, that is not going to change soon.

I have my CC permit. I hope & pray that I will never need fall back on a sidearm; indeed, since I have moved to a rural community in June, I have not felt the need to carry and sold the pistol I used to carry every day. I realize, Destro, that this seems alien to you. That said, it is better to have a thing you never need than to need a thing you do not have.

It’s not alien to me. I know Americans tend to be homicidal maniacs. I had to learn to not be paranoid when I moved to Europe. It was like I was recovering from post traumatic stress disorder. I never knew my European relatives to even lock their doors and they would not understand why I was doing it. Crime does happen in Europe. Criminals may break into your home but they don’t kill when they rob. America’s murder rate is an abomination compared to that of other industrialized nations.

And before you can say that guns keep you free…..America has more people behind bars than any free country on earth and more than even Red China. You are the products of a deranged culture and since you never left the asylum you don’t know what normal or abnormal is.
