House and Senate both pass their DACA bills. Senate votes on House bill and shows it can’t pass.

At that point, a shutdown fight is over House giving Senate DACA bill a vote.

CHIP is now off the table, which removes one hostage. In 3 weeks, we’ll be in the same position as we were over the weekend, except that the GOP won’t be able to claim Dems are favoring ‘illegal immigrants’ over sick kids, because the sick kids will be okay for 6 years.

So, what’s the GOP’s leverage then?

If the House passes a bill like the HFC wants, they can bring it up in the Senate and vote and it will fail - it won’t even require holding up the vote with a filibuster. It’ll fail a straight majority vote.

If the Senate passes a bill with a large bipartisan majority, and Ryan won’t put to a vote in the House because he knows it would pass, then HE’S the one shutting down government. If Ryan lets it have a vote and it passes, then Trump’s the one shutting down government.
