Just a thought: Someone should point out to @jack that it’s not very libertarian to treat elected officials as being above private citizens. It should be more likely that government people get banned for statements than the population at large.

The argument, FWIW, is that politicians are more subject to charges and accusations of a purely political nature. That is why a sitting president is supposed to be free of the “distractions” of civil or criminal charges, and only subject to impeachment by Congress.
