They have not morphed. They have been the American equivalent of the Soviet Communist Party for quite a while.

Compare Republican speeches to those of Soviet Communists and you’ll note they are almost identical word for word. Where Soviet Communists would say “Marx”, Republicans say “God” AND where Soviet Communists would say “Lenin” Republicans say “Reagan”.

My friends who fled the USSR in the 80s as it collapsed insist that there is no difference between Soviet Communist Party cells and American churches. Both do the same brainwashing.

It does appear that many non-theocrats who worshiped Reagan are in the never-Trumper category (e.g. Rick Wilson, Bill Kristol). They continue to hate Putin and everything he stands for and are temporary allies in our battle.
