Fact is I think many Americans want simple answers to complex problems and that’s why I think cult of personalities have developed in the past decade. They’ve always been there. Ross Perot, George Wallace, and others. However, I think the internet amplifies these CoPs.

Populism.

Populism is not an ideology, we have seen socialist as well as fascist populists on our political landscape.

But it is a matter of offering simple “common sense” answers that appeal to people’s distrust of “elites”.
