I be confused. Aren’t Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson traitors??? So why does she like them? They are traitors who actually took up arms and killed Americans. Cognitive dissonance?

Yes and no. Shortest explanation? “The Lost Cause.” Generations of American children being raised on the propaganda that nobody in the South in the 1860s supported slavery or wanted to defend it, they were just “defending their homes.” Thus they’re somehow “patriots” and cultural icons rather than treasonous bastards who took up arms because they lost an election…sound familiar?
