Buckley started out pretty damn racist. He mellowed and learned over time, but imperfectly. The current GOP is headed in the opposite direction.

Just because the GOP is fucking shrill now doesn’t mean it wasn’t shrill 10 or 20 years ago. True, Buckley was an influence in somewhat marginalizing paleos like Buchanan and JBS, but that’s all. Buckley was still a caveman.
