Maybe that was what Obama was thinking—it certainly worked out to be true.

I dunno. I think Obama probably was rooting out a potential rival but at the same time he picked a qualified candidate for the job too. I dunno. But speaking of Huntsman, where he really gained my respect during the GOP debates was when he talked about China. Romney especially loved to saber rattle about China even though his own companies profited from business with China. Huntsman was smart and not doing the usual scare tactics. I think he could possibly one day end up being a diplomatic version of the above mentored Hagel and make a decent SoS in a Democratic administration should a Democrat want to go that route.
