I won’t lie. I sometimes think they deserve what they’re voting for but the right wing propaganda machine goes a long way. It’s why ultimately I have more contempt for the GOP establishment than the true believers. Are the true believers, assholes, yeah they are no doubt about it but the true believers aren’t cynically using average Americans fears about gays, non-Christians, etc to get votes. The GOP establishment prays on fear and resentment for political power. It’s why ultimately if you pressed me I have a lot of disgust for someone like George C. Wallace who played bigotry for votes and thus power.

It’s understandable. I have that reaction myself. I want them to hurt like they are hurting others. It is hard for me to remember how they got here. Some, sure…they are fucking assholes. Others, though, are completely brainwashed.

What’s sadder is that older people are especially susceptible since they (and to a degree, me) grew up with news people having to report truth. Fox sued to be allowed to do just that, lie to their viewers…and won.
