I’m wondering if the bridge collapse may have been precipitated by a landslide or ground movement. Pittsburgh has had a lot of landslides in recent years due to weather fluctuations and water movement through the soil, so it’s possible that a shift of the foundations caused the collapse. Alternatively, it could be a failure of a fracture critical element, or a combination of the two.
