The defeated candidate - the sinister “Tea Party loon” with an eyepatch - lost his eye fighting in Iraq. He was in the Marines at Fallujah.

Rep. Filner was charged with assault a few years ago, after barging his way past an airline employee, and apparently used some of his campaign funds rather creatively to pay his wife for “consulting” work.

In other words, he’s a perfectly normal congressman, and it’s disappointing to see people who opposed him get so worked up. They’re behaving like Frenchmen.
