Yes, one reason we can complain today about having to “save the French” in WWII is that the French “saved” us 160 years earlier.

But you can’t really expect people to remember THAT part of the revolutionary era when they’re focused on the important things from that time period, like tricorne hats and dubious founding father quotes.

They also forget that some places in the USA are named after King Louis of France and General de la Fayette, to name but two. it’s not for some random, oo, what a cool name! reason.
