If you started a conversation with “yeah, the 9/11 attacks were awful, but bin Laden had some legitimate grievances,” you’d be lynched.

Don’t even have to go that far. The wingnuts went nuts when people suggested that, while they didn’t condone riots and violence during anti-cop protests, they did understand the anger behind it.
