re: #95 Teukka

As a note to trams, they are making a resurgence in Stockholm after decades of absence, both in the form of light rail with mostly separated track, and lines running together with traffic. We have 4 distinct lines (Lidingöbanan (21), Nockebybanan (12), Tvärbanan (22), Citylinjen (7)) and there is talk of at least one other line and conversion of an existing line, as well as extensions of existing lines.

Having lived in a Town with trams (Gothenburg), I can understand some of the issues with that form of mass transit, but it has its positive sides too.

NPR had a long discussion on railed surface transit a couple years ago. The city planner interviewed linked their demise to the rapid rate of change in dwelling patterns. It just cost a lot more to install and tear up track, thus a fatal inflexibility.
