Fascinating to see the county percentages, the band of blue across the lower middle of the state.

Much of that’s the Black Belt—named not for race, but for the soil color. It’s thinly settled, often with AA-majority districts. Some of the counties in it are among the lowest percentages of registered voters. Does include the Montgomery MSSA, with a large AA pop.
