Trump was lucky to run against a nominee nearly as unpopular as he was. It’s extremely unlikely he will have that kind of luck again in 2020.

The other thing is that Trump is very, very unlikely to be able to fix his low poll numbers. They persist in the face of economic good times - times which are only incrementally better than the “American Carnage” that preceded them. People talk about Trump’s base being his floor, but the thing is, his ceiling is hardening. Roughly 60% of America completely sees through him.
