I loved that movie. I still remember seeing it the first time. As I’ve said, I grew up in a very mixed neighborhood and had a lot of Black friends both close and casual in my youth.
When I saw Watermelon man I was like: Whoa! It said so much about the things I was seeing and feeling.
It’s vaguely influenced by a really early case of good-guy blackface, the author of Black Like Me.
