We live in a country where a long record of public service is a distinct disadvantage.
People were fed up with politicians and politics as usual and DT was able to sell himself successfully as the anti-politician with no record of public service (an only a patchy and largely one-sided record of his private undertakings)
The only public service that seems to matter to a large portion of the electorate is military service. That’s a bad trend.
There is nothing wrong with military service (says the veteran), but as the “only” metric that is dangerous.
