There was a Yiddish production of Fiddler that was getting great reviews off Broadway in the Before Times.
Is it different when we’re the ones staging it, versus outsiders?
I am ambivalent about Fiddler because it’s one of my favorites. The other shows I listed: The Mikado, Flower Drum Song, Madame Butterfly, are shows with Asian characters that are almost always played by non-Asians. Peter Pan is horrible on many levels, not only the portrayal of Native Americans. Oklahoma has a Muslim character who was thrown in there just to be made fun of.
