The way I look at it, there are many militant groups and individuals in the Middle East who have no shortage of reasons to hate the United States.

Regardless of the trigger or actual series of events, terrorists attacked and killed Americans simply because they do not like what America stands for nor do they like our support of Israel.

Yes it was a tragedy, but endlessly debating what the actual trigger was seems silly when the core issues at the heart of the attack are, in my opinion, pretty indisputable.
